We discussed the Science Education Fair projects today. EVERY student is required to join Google Classroom and complete the assignments associated with Science Education Fair.
Due today = Topic Approval Choose your topic and complete the form including at LEAST one reference. The students took a quiz to finalize our first unit in chemistry.
The students graded and glued their quizzes into their notebooks. After we completed the quiz, I handed out grade slips giving the students time to look through missing and absent assignments. We collected assignments, worked through trying to complete these missing assignments and for those all caught up, they chose an early finisher to complete. Students completed an online activity to better understand how atoms combine to make molecules.
Students follow the following instructions: 1. Plug in and Put on your earbuds, headphones, etc. 2. Click the following link Atoms to Molecules 3. Click the right button that says, "Nanolab" 4. Click the "Build" icon 5. Complete the activity while filling out your assignment. NOTE: LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE NARRATOR! After you complete the molecule, the narrator will tell you about its uses. Once you pass and hit NEXT you cannot go back, you have to start the level over again. The students wrapped up their adopt an element posters and we presented them in class. If you were absent you will present your poster to Mrs. Sandoval when you return.
We made posters using the research we found on our elements. Use the directions below for the poster. If you were absent, use a regular blank sheet of paper for your poster.
Each poster must have the following written on the back: 1. Element Symbol 2. Element Name 3. Atomic # 4. Atomic Mass 5. Cost 6. Slogan 7. Your Name ___________ 8. Your Number _______ 9. Your Class Period ________ 10. Staple your research sheet to your poster Total Points ______/60 The students worked on Adopt an Element today.
This is the first of a three day project, see the schedule below: Day One: Research Elements in the computer lab (Friday) Day Two: Create Posters (Monday) Day Three: Finish Posters and Present to Class (Tuesday) Each student was assigned an element between Atomic Number 1 - 40. They then will research the element and find out its cost, uses, etc. After they have researched the element they will each create a poster and lastly, present the element to the class. The following websites will help you find information: Chemical Elements Periodic Chart Chemicool Web Elements Periodic Table Facts Below is the information about the poster. We talked about the periodic table today and went through a reminder on how to read it. The students completed a periodic table practice assignment. We spent the last half of the class period talking about the upcoming Adopt an Element project. Remember... # Protons = # Electrons # Electrons = Atomic # # Neutrons = Atomic Mass (minus) # Protons Periodic Table Practice The students wrapped up day two of chemistry aliens. We glued our periodic tables into our notebooks.
We began our first official unit of the year...Chemistry! The students began the unit by looking for patterns in our chemistry aliens activity. Each group was given a set of "aliens" and through trial and error looked for patterns in the set. Chemistry Aliens If assembled correctly the students should see the following: If you were absent: Use the table above to complete the assignment. Look at the spots on the table where the "x" appears. Describe and draw a picture of what you think the next pattern of alien would look like.
On the back: Identify the KEY SIMILARITY (see the vocab. on the paper) and the VARYING TRAITS (again...see the vocab. on the paper) for both the groups and the periods. #6: Assume there is a 6th period...What would ONE of the spots under the groups look like? Hint...follow the patterns. |
What can I find here?EVERY DAY, you will find a post about what has happened in class, any related readings, book scans, videos, scanned documents, etc. ANYTIME you are absent for any reason OR need additional information about the happenings of the day you will LOOK HERE ON THE 8th GRADE PAGE for the information.
