The students talked today about how we look at data in science. We discussed how scientists gather data and then begin to look for patterns. We began with looking at series of numbers and made decisions about what the numbers where doing in terms of patterns. We then began to look at graphs.
The students were not told what the data represented just to read the data the best they could and draw inferences on what the numbers COULD mean. The students were instructed to USE the evidence to draw an inference. As the graphs moved on in the lesson it became clear that they represented weather. Each new piece of evidence began to help shape their inferences.
