We also introduced and began our Fossil Sequence Columns that we will finish tomorrow.
Today we did an activity to help us learn about fossil records. If you were absent, start with the letter cards. Find the pattern in the cards, and place them accordingly. Now do the same thing with the fossil cards. We also introduced and began our Fossil Sequence Columns that we will finish tomorrow. *hint: each one has something in common with the one before and after it!
We continued looking at cross-sections of rocks to determine the order of geologic events for that section. We also added the types of rocks and events that happened to the layers. Use what you know about geologic principles and the diagrams to complete the steps. Each picture tells you how many steps you should find. Sequencing Worksheet The first one is done for you below. Use the definition of an unconformity to help you with the analysis question #3.
We used our knowledge of geologic principles to determine the sequence of geologic events from cross-sections of rocks. We studied the rocks and events and put them in order from youngest to oldest. Start by finding the oldest rock and working your way up from there.
What's Up Sequencing The first one is done for you below. We talked about the difference between folds and faults today by taking some notes. We reinforced what we learned by doing a bookwork assignment.
Folds and Faults Bookwork We watched Ice Age today looking for some scientific principles that we have been learning about. We watched for characteristics of the main characters, fossils, habitats, and volcanoes. If you were absent, watch the movie and complete the movie guide.
Ice Age Movie Guide A tessellation is an arrangement of shapes closely fitted together in a repeated pattern without gaps or overlapping. This is similar to the crystalline structure you see in minerals. You will create your own tessellation today using a template. Color your tessellation in a repeating pattern so there are no gaps in the design. A few examples are shown for you.
Tessellation Templates Fossils are the remains or traces of organisms that lived long ago. We talked today about different ways fossils are made. Use the power point to complete your notes. Fossil Notes Power Point Fossil Notes Template Fossil Bookwork There are some main principles that geologists consider when determining relative time. Many of these involve the ability to provide the relative ages of strata or the manner in which they were formed. We will use these principles to determine which event occurred first.
Geologic Principles Template Geologic Principles Power Point We completed a crossword puzzle today to review what we have learned so far in our Geology Unit. This will count as your quiz. You can use your notebook as needed to complete it.
Geology Crossword Quiz We will be taking our Midterm Quiz on Monday. Please be sure to have your notebooks up to date. All notes can be found under the notebook tab on this website.
You should have notes for: mineral characteristics rock types rock cycle weathering erosion |
What can I find here?EVERY DAY, you will find a post about what has happened in class, any related readings, book scans, videos, scanned documents, etc. ANYTIME you are absent for any reason OR need additional information about the happenings of the day you will LOOK HERE ON THE 8th GRADE PAGE for the information.
